Here's a beautiful sofa table and the plans which will help YOU build one for yourself and your family to enjoy. Feel free to use the plan for yourself, but we ask that you not distribute it yourself -- or profit from it.
This is not a difficult project but it's going to take some time. As I pointed out in the article, I built the table you see using plain sawn red oak. I had enough laying around and I was having a bit of difficulty locating quarter sawn white oak at the time. I would highly recommend that you go with the quarter sawn white oak if you can. I made some comments in the article about adding a stretcher between the legs if you would like, but the reason I didn't do it in the first place is because I like the clean, open look. If you prefer, you could even put a shelf there for extra storage. (In my case though, the table sits between a window and the back of a sofa, so there's really no access to the area beneath the table if there were a shelf there.) But if you want a stretcher or shelf between the table legs, by all means go for it! :-)
To download this file, be sure to right-click on "Right-Click Here" above, and choose "Save Target As.." (MS Internet Explorer) or "Save Link As.." (Netscape). Do not try to left-click and open it on the fly using your browser's Acrobat Reader plug-in. There have been reports of freeze-ups and browser crashes when you do this so it's best to just save it to a file then open it with the regular Acrobat Reader.
