WOODPRO

By Ken Young

Notice: I have temporarily pulled WoodPro off the shelves, so to speak, after someone tried to open the program on the fly to his desktop (instead of saving the file), and ended up with about a gazillion replications on his desktop of the files that unpack when the executable runs. I'm not sure what happened but I'm going to investigate further before releasing the file to the public again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

As a database WOODPRO contains 331 common types of wood and their properties. As an expert system WOODPRO can make simple or complicated queries that use physical properties, woodworking properties, color, and the latest prices. For example, you could ask it for all strong black woods that plane well, and list them by order of price.

WOODPRO is for suppliers, professionals, and hobbyists. Suppliers can load the price file with their prices. Customers who use WOODPRO in the yard can only see wood that is in stock. The price file can be distributed by email at no cost. Professionals can easily make their own price file (if they want) for the suppliers they use. WOODPRO's queries provide quick cost-effective alternatives to the small number of woods each professional normally uses. Lower costs and happier customers mean bigger profits. Hobbyists can use WOODPRO to quickly find the right wood for the job at the right price without having to cross-reference a bunch of woods in a pile of books (unless you want to).

WOODPRO comes as "woodpro1.exe" and is set up as a self expanding executable file. Simply put it in a temporary directory and type "woodpro1". To get a copy click here -- REMOVED.
